There is actually very little violence in it for a crime drama. When the violence erupts it is often unexpected, quick and brutal. But far more real estate in the show covers family life, therapy sessions, dream sequences and relationships. By the time Matthew Weiner got involved, the actors were synonymous with the characters, every line of writing was uniquely dialed in, and yet Weiner elevated it with a sort of spiritual element that I also find in Mad Men and even the Romanoffs. Weiner was roadkill on the #metoo highway, but it wasn't deserved. I wish he was still making shows. He was the most talented showrunner in TV, I believe. Chase was talented, but I think he really overachieved with Sopranos and was hitting above his weight. His other work kind of sucks.Mad Men is an amazing show. I should do a rewatch soon. Yes, Roger Sterling has great lines. That actor is also featured in Romanoffs.
