And, especially topical now.I typically watch local and national CBS. Local FOX (don't have 'cable'). Occasionally NBC and ABC. For less fluff, Reuters internet written stories. But a person can't know how "reporting" is slanted unless you watch/listen and observe critcally.
To this end, I am so glad that, decades ago, I took a few college courses in marketing, public speaking and business law. They have been invaluable to me over the years.
It's important - no, it's critical - to observe not only what is said, but also how it is said, and the photos which are used. As someone long ago told me "the right combination of words". Let's take a recent example from CBS, Wednesday morning:
"Harris was on the offensive." This was followed by "Trump attacked Harris". Any second-year journalism student understands this technique of how to phrase things and what adjectives to use to slant their "report".
And let's not forget "journalist" Elizabeth Palmer. For years, I've said to my wife "she'd be great at telling scary stories to children". Her tone is so "ominous".
An astute observer sees this. Unfortunately, most people aren't astute observers.
