this is simply a test of what most people commonly call throttle tip in, or how much pedal travel does it take to get more fuel to the engine. now days, one can buy an electronic gizmo and program your own tip in, and be the first one on your block to loose control backing out of your own driveway.
By the way, before electronics took over, Chevy always had a more aggressive fuel tip in than ford , I wonder if that is still true. I didn't see any corporate trends in the article, and didn't read to see if it discussed why such design choices are made . It certainly is not a random drivability criteria that the magazine discovered as a " gotya " secret drivability criteria the builders overlooked.
