I've also read plenty of memoirs from ordinary German soldiers who lived in fear of the T-34. None who feared the Sherman.

You'll always find somebody who loved Shermans, and, true, the Sherman fitted with the British 17-pounder cannon was a decent tank. But there weren't that many of them.
Even with the upgraded gun, it wasn't a match for the Panther or Tiger, certainly not the Royal Tiger (but neither was the T-34).
But none of this is even relevant. After Kursk, the Germans no longer had the capability of taking the initiative against the Soviets. Kursk was a full year before the second front in Normandy.
Like the Soviets or hate them, the US never would have withstood 25 million dead. We'd have surrendered long before that.
