...on your central forced-air heating system, a pot of heated water (doesn't need to be boiling, just simmering) on the stove, or pans of water near the primary heating vents can help add humidity to the air. The greater the amount of surface area, the better.
For the inevitable drying/itching/cracking skin--shower/bathe less-frequently. Our bodies produce the necessary oils to maintain our skin (the largest organ in the body, BTW), and frequent showering/bathing (with caustic soaps/detergents) just aggravates dry skin issues. All the topical "moisturizers" in the world won't do sh*t (other than make you feel "greasy") if you continuously scrub them off in a hot shower/bath.
As for products--the best I have ever encountered are O'Keeffe's. They work, and you don't smell like a French whore, or feel like a greased pig after applying them.
"And today is for sale and it's all you can afford. Buy your own admission. The whole things got you bored. Well the Lord chooses the good ones, and the bad ones use the Lord"--a very dear friend for decades Michael Stanley (Gee)--RIP
