Thanks for that, Rod.

Very helpful.

Doesn't sound as though my prior analysis has changed much. Our home is all electric. No gas whatsoever. We have two heat pumps, two water heaters, electric clothes dryer and kitchen appliances. Average consumption is ~2,000 kWh per month. All of our south facing roof area is on the front of the house facing the street, so I have somewhat limited real estate on which I can deploy panels. Deed restrictions prohibit doing things that are visible from the street.

My contract price for electricity is 10.2 cents per kWh. That's the all in price. An array like yours would produce roughly 25% of our consumption, and I don't think I have the roof real estate to mount that many panels. Solar just doesn't seem like the solution for us.

A better alternative for us might be closed cell foam insulation. This house was built before the use of foam was common in these parts. When we bought the house in 1991, it had 4" of blown-in fiberglass in all overhead attic areas. One of the first things I did was to lay down some 18" batting on top of that. Made a big difference. However, the underside of the roof decking has no insulation or radiant barrier. I wonder how much additional improvement could be wrought from removing all the batting and blown, and replacing with foam between rafters on roof decking and foam between ceiling joists? I may have to call in a pro.

Anyway, thanks again for taking the time to reply. And Abe, I still luv you.
