Congrats on the new license!

I had my Advanced Class license for a couple decades then let it completely expire beyond the grace period. The FCC no longer issues the Advanced Class. I took the General test a few years ago so I now have my General Class license. I would not post your call sign because it is tied to your home address if someone knows where to search.

You should be able to bring up a few 2m FM repeaters provided you also have the appropriate CTCSS* (Continuous Tone Coded Squelch System) tone programmed into the channel. You can get the hardcopy ARRL Repeater Directory 2023 from Amazon and there are online resources as well to help you find repeaters in your area.

There's software to assist with programming your radio which beats manually punching in a bunch of buttons from the radio front panel for each channel. The software looks like a spread sheet that you populate on your computer then upload to the radio. RT Systems sells such software and the appropriate interface cable for your model radio and you might be able to use free software depending on the radio. CHIRP is one of the free ones.

* Motorola originally came out with what they called Private Line tones or PL tones many decades ago. These are generically known as CTCSS tones. You've probably seen them on those toy FRS radios:

Some repeaters require no tone at all but many do. Provided your radio is transmitting one of the appropriate tones when you press the PTT button on your radio, the repeater will decode it and receive your signal and re-transmit it. Different repeaters in different areas will use different tones. These are also called sub-audible tones because their level is set very low and in many cases you won't even hear the tone.
