Kevin recently sent me the parts for a high voltage version of his shunt regulator. I have successfully incorporated it into the driver stage of my PPP diff. KT-120 mono-blocks of Kevin's design. The photo shows the device and the output current source that I had to modify by removing a voltage step down resistor and then replacing it with a fifth current source to feed the shunt reg.
The results in many ways are similar to Kevin's comments on the silver 1931s. The sound stage opened up more with more articulation, especially in the bass. I had a better sense of human musicians singing and playing music. Clearly hearing how musicians would craft and bend their notes created a heightened sense of emotional connection to the music. This builds on the changes brought on by adding shunt regulators to the input stage of these amps, my line stage and phono pre. Good stuff!
