I've found that if you make a template with acrylic window material by scribing the hole locations with a dial caliper on the plastic, use a sharp awl on the plastic and then drill plastic with 1/16th" drill. You can then check to make sure everything is accurate. The template can then be either clamped or taped with masking tape to the chassis and 1/16th" pilot holes can be started. I would then enlarge to 1/8". From there I would use a 1/8 to 1/2" by 1/32" unibit step drill to get a clean hole. I used this technique with all the trannie mount holes and locating the vent holes around the tubes. Also for the pattern of vent holes on the bottom. It worked well. All the trannies mounted perfectly! The template works well to keep bit from walking a skrewing up your accuracy.
