It must be very hard to put a new spin on old material. Most of the
jazz "canon" has been done to death, and new versions of older material
tend not to be too exciting. A few people can do it regularly - Dick
Hyman, Dave McKenna, Earl Hines, Oscar Peterson come immediately to mind -
but they are rarer than politicians who have the welfare of the nation
at heart.
