Home Jazz Alley

From Louis Armstrong to Charlie Parker to the new greats of today, this is the place for Jazz!

What is "Jazz"?

I ask this question because my own definition of Jazz covers everything from Louis, Miles, Brubeck, Monk thru later Miles, RTF, Weather Report thru Jeff Lorber, Bob James, Grover Washington thru Yellowjackets, Alain Caron and tons of stuff in between and beyond.

If I want to post something about a Jimmy Haslip recording or Al Di Meola, I want to post here since I consider their music to be Jazz.

Having a "Music" forum makes sense because I have some recordings that are difficult to place into a certain genre, but Al Di Meola and the like isn't one of them.

So what is your definition of Jazz?
