Hi up,Bert Doppenberg has for quite some years developed and refined a systems resembling what you are describing - although he now prefers the German AER drivers to Lowthers. He uses round tractrix front horns - called Oris horns - in front(!) of the full rangers. He also prefers to use front horns to the 15" woofers, but some of his systems just use the 15" woofer without horn loading. You can see his speakers and a lot of interesting info here:

P.S.: I have a pair of Oris horns myself, but I am not financially related to his work, etc.
