Hi drdna,I haven't heard the Edgarhorns, but I do use active crossovers on my 2-way Oris horn/bass horn setup and I am pleased with the results.
Active or passive - either way you will have components in the signal path. The primary advantage of using active crossovers is when you have to cross over in the bass region - like in my setup (160 Hz) - because it takes the strain of the amp driving the mid/high section.
With Edgarhorns it may be an advantage to crossover actively between the midbass horns and the saladbowls too, I don't know, but I agree with eso that using an active crossover between the saladbowls and the tweeter would probably be a waste of time - and money:-)
Some people optain good results with Passive line-level crossovers, but when I tried that I had problems with ground loops. If they are made well true active crossovers can be dead quiet, and that is what I use now.
Good luck!
Regards
Peter
