John, thanks for your input on my posts. Interestingly, I had intended to obtain an RTA to obtain objective measurements, but both the speaker designer and my local tech (pretty capable guy) advised me to forego the RTA, and rely on listening instead. Their comments were based on easily mis-interpreting the RTA data.In any case, I'm still curious about learning to use this tool properly, as there are many other applications I could use it for besides the x-over. If you can recommend a specific make or model, that is apprpriate for my purpose, I would be grateful. The Gold Line product looks interesting, and expensive.
