Home High Efficiency Speaker Asylum

Need speakers that can rock with just one watt? You found da place.

Re: Voice of dissent

The article brings up some good points, but I agree with you that how well the woofer is damped is probably as important a factor in the perceived "speed".Also that the room can play as big a part(if not more)as the speaker itself.

A search through these forums on any particular sub will result in wildly varying opinions as to how well it integrates, more than likely caused by the room rather than the speaker.

Some time ago I got into an argument with a guy on one of these forums about "bass transients",and I said "there ain't no such thing".However, after building the LABhorn,I started to rethink my position because it does sound more "transient".

Common sense,of course, tells you that the crossover will filter out any of the higher freq components, and send them to the midrange,or even the tweeter,so it is not a matter of the woofer responding faster. It may,to some degree, being a horn, and requiring less movement of the cone, but I don't think a DR woofer should have that much trouble with 80-90 hz.

However,I believe the improved dampening of the horn is what causes it to sound "faster".

Anyway,I guess it is a combination of all these factors that are required to obtain the optimum "fastness".I don't know...can the bass be too fast?
