Bruce Edgar had sourced my JBL drivers which I recall are 2440s with 2441 diaphragms. Later, I bought a pair of TAD 4001s from Mike B. He had also included a crossover with a notch filter that made the frequency response for the TADs dead flat to 20khz.
The frequency response did measure nearly perfect, but the TADs sounded dead and flat. I swapped back the Edgar's 1st order crossover and they sounded better. Yet still, the TADs just didn't have the depth and nuance of the JBLs, so I sold the TADs.
Of course, the JBLs do start dropping off over about 10khz, so they'll require a super tweeter crossed over around 12khz. I actually ran them without the super tweeter and never felt wanting, but then, I don't hear much over about 12-14khz these days.
