Home High Efficiency Speaker Asylum

Need speakers that can rock with just one watt? You found da place.

So -- you've generated a testable hypothesis :) My suggestion...

test it! :)

Invest in a little DSP like the "Dayton" or the little hunnert buck "thomann t.racks DSP 4x4" just tested @ ASR (see link below) and build the notch filter you determine that you need -- and compare them yourself. The nice thing is that you can use the DSP as a tool to figure out what sort of contour gives you what you want (determined either 'by ear' and/or by FR measurements) and then use that information to design & cobble up a passive network to do the same thing. I.e., the two activities can be done sequentially rather than in parallel. :)

You can then do blind A/B switching... or just listen to both and go with the solution you prefer.

For the (modest) cost, having one of the modern 4 x 4 DSPs in the toolbox (or closet, as the case may be) doesn't seem extravagant -- nor does having a few lightly used passive XO parts in the drawer. :)

... and one valedictory comment: I'd say the best solution is to find loudspeakers that don't require additional fiddling in either the analog or the digital domain. Less is more.

All just (my) opinions, of course!

all the best,
mrh
