That's very similar to the Novak design, the main difference being that the ports vent into the horn further down instead of at the throat. It operates on the same principle, that a tapered pipe works as a horn down to Fc and as a port below that. One might make the argument that this patent should not have been granted, as Novak's prior art became public domain in 1975. Around 1998 I investigated the possibility of patenting the venting of the rear chamber into the horn, and was told by a patent examiner that the Novak prior art ruled it out. I've seen a number of recent patents that should not have been granted, and wouldn't withstand a challenge. I guess patent examiners today aren't as good as they used to be.
