A compression driver/horn is capable of far lower THD than a direct radiator, just as a horn loaded woofer or sub is capable of far lower THD than a direct radiator. But you don't need to use vintage drivers. Modern drivers can and do outperform them. By all means if you have vintage and they do the job keep them, but I wouldn't be looking at vintage in lieu of modern, and I was listening to vintage when it was modern.
