Crossovers aren't brickwall, and even if they were the speaker will create harmonics. As for the fundamentals versus harmonics loudness, read the linked document, especially with respect to Figure 1. Factor in how equal loudness makes the harmonics easier to hear and it's easy to understand what Paul Klipsch was talking about in
