Can you explain to me...

... why raising my Peavey FH1/ Kappa 15C bass horns off the floor with three hockey pucks changes the sound so DRAMATICALLY (enormous low mids / upper bass "bloom", like it suddenly fills the room much better, but I'm not sure the effect is linear, it seems overpowering, slightly "soft" on some tracks)? It's something I have been trying in the past then came back to the bass horns sitting directly on the floor, but since I now use Kappa 15C instead of K33 woofers, I thought I'd try again - and somehow the effect seems even more extreme.

I wonder if I should try some expensive footers (à la Aktyna Aris) but for the price they're asking I'd better be sure before purchasing ^^
