Question: Would you rather drive a 1928 Ford or a 2020 Toyota? That's the comparison between old WE and modern drivers. It's true that a very long horn won't have reasonably flat response over a wide bandwidth. Horns are band pass devices. When a horn is long enough to load the lows it won't pass the highs very well. The delay problem is real, real enough that by 1939 all of the WE15 installations had been removed from US theaters, replaced by Shearer horns. They could have used SS delay lines if they existed, but they didn't. This doesn't mean the old WE stuff wasn't good in its day, but its day was 90 years ago.
