Yet there are many famous commercial design that use very basic, sometimes first order, crossovers and leave the natural roll off of drivers/horns do the magic (most Heritage designs from Klipsch are making use of this; whether or not it "works" is debatable, but much of Klipsch "roughness" of sound is due to the use of not-so-stellar drivers IMHO).
In that context, I don't see how a simple analogue crossover would be worse than a full DSP setup with eq and corrections everywhere.
