Well yes using that kind of simple analogue 24dB or 12dB crossovers one needs to use drivers in their most linear range and hope for the best - subjectively I find an over processed signal (or an overcomplicated passive crossover ) flat as a highway more subjectively objectionable than an unprocessed "rocky road" (within reason). But we all have different ears.
