They came with a McIntosh MC-2100 and the combination made me, quite literally, cringe. The MC-2100 and its early, autoformer-coupled kin are grainy, grating amplifiers, and a sensitive loudspeaker is their reverse sweet spot, IME.
A very low powered SE vacuum tube amplifier (Decware Zen SE-84B) rescued them for me; SE 2A3 was better still. Best I ever heard them was with a Marantz 8B that I had the privilege of rehabbing for someone in MA. They also sound(ed) pretty good with a Fisher 500C, which rounded off the rough edges of the Cornies fairly well.
That 8B, though, is a 2DIE4 amp (with apologies to Stereophile ).
all the best,
mrh
