Most full range driver have the propensity for what I call "2k shout" where the their curves spike providing an unpleasant listen fatigue. You'll know it when you hear it...I'm sure you can get a similar response from a compression horn driver without the proper attenuation.
Many Horn designs use full rangers. I've been using Fostex drivers in DIY projects for a number of years. Most of the projects are back loaded horn designs. I personally like the sound staging and dynamics of a horn design when you get it perform as designed which takes some doing. The system as a whole needs to be examined, the diver, the baffle correction, Amp output impedance and dampening....and the room. Like everything else in Audio, it's about the system (collection of components and how they interact together)
