While it's true that a line source drops off at 3dB per doubling of distance, as opposed to 6dB with a point source, in a home environment it's of no real consequence. For a line source to have this property it must be at least 3 wavelengths high, which is seldom seen in speakers for home use. Even in that case the listening distances tend to be too short for it to matter. What is beneficial with a line array in the home is that with each doubling of driver count the voltage sensitivity of the array increases by 6dB. That makes it easy to get high sensitivity without using a horn loaded speaker in a tall shallow format that tends to be more practical in most rooms than a short deep horn.
