I've always found Art Dudley to be one of the most open minded reviewers of the last couple of decades. I say this as an audiophile of 5 decades who has read darn near every American Journal and many British ones. And I come into audio from a nearly opposite side to Art. So I'm not defending him as an ally.
Given the gear he uses, I suspect Art wanted to like the Klipschs very much. That he found so many flaws actually surprised me. Much of the criticism to his review seems centered on the conditions of his review. If this is so then I read the review as stating the Klipschs only work well under very limited conditions. Then perhaps that is the gist of the story.
Reviewing a speaker like a Klipsch is a dangerous proposition given that it is obviously a product that arouses extreme emotion in its advocates. Art had to be brave to take on the job. Interesting that the Klipsch company was nowhere as disturbed as the Klipsch lovers.
