I suspect that Percy, while he didn't name any speaker, was referring to the Klipschhorn. And given his background in horn design, some of his ideas were probably correct. And I'm also betting that he knew the compromises Paul made to get a reasonably sized bass horn, but that Percy would never have done that. He believed in straight horns or at least gradual smooth curves so there were no sudden changes in cross section area which produce resonances in bass response.
