I once met Percy Wilson(decades ag) who was the Gramaphone technical editor for decades) and I recall he said there were two things you shouldn't do with bass horns(obviously for maximum performance). You shouldn't fold them and you shouldn't make them from wood. I suspect he'd tell you to use much more than 12 mm ply.
