He didn't use modeling software, that's for sure. I'd be inclined to say it's not really a horn either, but more of a positive taper transmission line. The mouth area is way too small to provide the gain that a well engineered horn would.
One of the first things I do when modeling a horn is to compare the result against a ported box of similar size to see if the added complexity of a horn build is worth it. In this case I'd be inclined to say that it isn't.
