It's a problem with a rear loader because there is a front and rear wave that meet 180 degrees out of phase within the speaker pass band. You have a front and rear wave that meet out of phase with bass reflex, but it's below the pass band. You have a front and rear wave that meet out of phase in a tapped horn subwoofer, which is a variant of a rear loader, but it occurs above the pass band.
