I am both a wood worker and an audiophile. I am going to be making three different sets of 16 sided wood horns. The first set is for the EV T-350 tweeter. The second set is for the EV 1823M midrange. The last set is for the EVM-12L mid-bass.
Each set will have no compromises. The horn length and circumference will be one wavelength in length determined by the horn cut-off frequency. T-350: 3500Hz, 1823M; 800Hz, and EVM-12L; 200Hz.
I will start by making 3 different profiles for each of the 3 different frequency ranges out of cheap wood. Simple conical, tractrix, and exponential. Each horn profile will then be sonically measured. The best profile for each frequency range will then be made out of quality wood. Years ago I found this spalted red gum lumber and saved it for a special project yet undetermined. Well its now determined!
