RE: stories

Hey, Squiffles, I didn't mean to set you off, buddy. Your post strikes me as the sort of condemnation one might expect from someone who has spent big bucks on speaker wire and feels threatened upon encountering any opinion contrary to his own.

You assume my story is an often told tale. That is an erroneous assumption. I don't believe I've told it before.

You assume that I saw myself as some sort of hero in my post. That is an erroneous assumption. I see myself as a pretty skilled craftsman intelligent enough to learn what factors make a sonic difference in speaker wires and incorporate those factors into my speaker cables. For a description of some of some of those factors see my first post in this thread.

You assume my speaker cables look like something an aquarium store is throwing out. That is an erroneous assumption and an insult. A fabricated item can be and often is greater than the sum of its parts.

You assume I try to fool my audiophile friends. That is an erroneous assumption. I've never once failed to tell anyone I made my own cables after they listrened to them and formed an opinion.

You assume neither my friends nor I have evolved in our discernment of good sound and an appreciation of it in forty years. That is an erroneous assumption. I can't imagine what makes you think that unless you are just a very negative person.

Squiffles, I never said there are no differences in various speaker wires nor do I believe that. I do believe that many very expensive speaker wires include shameless amounts of smoke, mirrors and snake oil in their marketing.

If I may I will suggest to you that you lighten up. As I understand it the primary purpose of our hobby is to derive the greatest pleasure possible from the enjoyment of recorded music. For me that works best when I avoid getting in a dither every time someone holds an opinion different from mine.

I dream of an America where a chicken can cross the road without having it's motives questioned.
