I realize you've already cured your problem, but in case others use this thread for the same problemn I thought I would add that my best results in cleaning out the gaps in a pair of PM4A's was achieved by using stiff aluminum duct tape. This is the shiny stuff which is often used on ducts as opposed to the grey plastic/fabric type which is used on everything else in the known universe.
