I also like tubes, and use them in my big front loaded horn system.
In my other system are Tannoy 15" monitor golds in original autograph cabinets. My first efforts to coax good sound from them were with SETs and P-P tubes. The amps are good ones, like Lamm and a nice condition Marantz 8B. Using these, I wasn't satisfied with the sound. They were dead and tepid sounding.
I finally cast aside my bias and tried a no NFB 100w ss Ayre amp and preamp. For me, this combination produces the finest sound. Music interests are broad and include full orchestral, jazz, and rock.
