Time & Phase Alignment

I am working on a large horn project and have some questions re: time & phase alignment:

- Time alignment is most critical at HF and less critical at LF, correct?

- Then it is more critical to align tweeter and midrange(s) than midrange to upper-bass, correct?

- This has implications for physical layout of all the horns

- Assume that we do NOT time align upper bass with everything else

- Assume that we DO time align midrange(s) and tweeter perfectly

- Assume that we DO phase align or wave align the HF / MF with the upper bass

- Then, a 4 ft tall 1.6:1 upper bass horn could have a largish 200Hz midrange horn mounted on top, with the tweeter mounted INSIDE the upper bass horn.

- The upper midrange and tweeter are time aligned together with the lower midrange outsider the upper bass horn

- Everything is time aligned EXCEPT for the upper bass horn, and this is phase aligned with everything else. The only driver not physically time aligned is in the less critical LF region. The benefit is that now we can move all the other drivers further forward to avoid reflections from the back of the upper bass horn. Also, integration should be better because the drivers have less vertical spread and zero horizontal spread.

- Not sure about the optimal physical location for the MF and HF drivers relative to the mouth of the LF. Further back is closer to perfect time-alignment, but at the expense of horizontal and vertical dispersion. Would need to experiment here.

What do you think? Do these ideas have merit or am I missing something? I think the benefits are tremendous in terms of physical space management, multiple driver integration, and managing reflections from the back of the bass horn.
