Hi,
I am currently using the conical horns in the picture above. I would really appreciate your help finding the BEST cone horn driver for this specific horn! The driver/horn combo shall cover from 160-1000 Hz. I use (steep slope) ACTIVE filters, so the driver/horn combo does not have to sound well far below and above this range. Below and above this mid horn I use horns too.
Here are the specs of the mid horn:
Throat size = 81 cm^2 (or 12.55 sq inches)
Mouth size = 2754.16 cm^2 (or 426.9 sq inches)
Length [on axis] = 61.5 cm (or 24.2 inches)
So far I have used the 8†Fane Studio 8M, which to my ears sounds good. However, inspired by earlier comment on the AA from especially John Sheerin and Bill Fitzmaurice (many thanks!), I cannot help thinking that drivers with more ideal “horn specs†may provide better results.
I am after a very CLEAN and CLEAR sound where especially human voices must be reproduced naturally!
At the moment I have three candidate drivers: The new 6.5†from Acoustic Elegance, the 6.5†Beyma 605 Nd, and the apparently super powerful 8†Ciare 8.50 NdMR. Based on their specs, all three drivers seem more suited for horn loading than the Fane, that I’m currently using (all three drivers have higher Fs, lower Qt, and lower mass, than the Fane Studio 8M). The parameters of the three candidate drivers are listed below (the Beyma via the link):
What would be the BEST driver in this specific horn in the desired range (160-1000 Hz)? One of the candidate drivers below, or….?
Thanks a lot!
Best regards
Peter
