You are right about front load horns. The problem is you do want to go as high as possible, unless it is a subwoofer horn. careful positioning of the reflectors make a difference, but you have to be careful about where you place the folds and reflectors. Note a smooth curled horn WE12a, does not necessarily work as well as a folded one. One of the Horn News shows this effect.
