Here is a conical horn with "Brillo" placed in throat. This is a very open weave type material, similar to open structured foam.
You can see it better or worse here and there. You loose output too.
Note that some of the peaks in the TAD are due to break-up modes in the beryllium diaphragm itself. ( past 8kHz )
A tricky problem. There is no perfect horn shape. A great number of factors are at work. I have heard pure exponential, Tractrix, conical, and bent horns all sound good depending how they are used.
