Coincident's UHS Series, which are to begin shipping on June 1st,will include :1.Triumph Signature- 94 db
2.Conquest - 95db
3.Victory- 97 db - Flat 14 ohm load. The latter is a very novel loudspeaker designed specifically to allow 2A3,300B etc amplifiers to perform with all their inherent glories and virtually no compromise. The Victory will provide a very attractive alternative to horns.
While these sensitivity figures are not that high in relation to what is available with horns ,it most certainly is in the realm of dynamic speakers.I am not aware of any 2 way bookshelf speaker that is 94 db sensitive nor any 2 way floor standing speaker that is 95 db sensitve let alone a full range speaker ,like the Victory that is 97 db and a flat 14 ohm load.
One of the main complaints that I and many others have with existing true full range horn speaker systems(besides large size and aesthetics) is the need to use powered (by solid state electronics)cone woofers with their attendant sonic discontinuity. The logic of using the purest amplification like a 2A3 SET on the horn mid and high frequencies and then crossing over to a transistor amplifier driving a cone woofer has always struck me as flawed.
The Victory is the only all dynamic speaker of which I am familiar, that will be relatively full range (flat to 36 hz)AND 97 db sensitive and a 14 ohm load.Listening to this speaker driven by a small SET full range will prove revelatory.
The sole purpose of the UHS Series of loudspeakers was to offer the audiophile /music lover who wishes to use the finest amplifiers(i.e SETs)with a very viable alternative to horn based speakers.
