Re: horn dilemma

Hi,

I have owned Oris 150 with AER MD 3 drivers (the top of the line AER). This combo is very detailed, clear, natural sounding and involving - especially on acoustic music. Playing rock music, they also sound very good, but they can get a bit 'thin' sounding at times..

However, I have now replaced these with Bentwood 200 horns from Andrew Vanderkruk (a great guy!) BMS 4592 ND compresion drivers, which does all of the things the Oris/AER combo does well, but in my opinion the Bentwood/BMS is even better with rock music (they do not sound thin at all and can play as loud as anyone would want). The difficult part here is to get the passive filter for the BMS coax right. You can see this combo at the link inserted below.

If I were you I would definately also consider the new Oris 250 horns with Berts modified version of the BMS 4592 ND. I have not heard this combo, but Bert definately knows what he is doing(!) Relative to other compression driver systems, one obvious advantage about this combo is, that it can be crossed as low as 220 Hz, which makes ntegration a lot easier! Besides this combo is quite a bit cheaper than that Oris/AER version. You can read about it at Bert's forum: www.bd-design.nl

Good luck!

All the best
Peter
