New mid/high horns

Hello,

I have got new mid/high horns and drivers (please see the pictures at the link below). The horns are Bentwood 200 horns made by Andrew Vanderkruk from Canada (a great guy to deal with!). The horns have an exponential curvature and a Fc=200. Even though the horns are not made of solid wood they are very well damped. The drivers are BMS 4592 ND (16 Ohm version) working all the way up to 20k.

I have shown the bass horns before in an earlier post. (At that time I used Oris horns with AER MD3 drivers above the bass horns.) The bass horns are 3 meters (almost 10 feet) long, straight, 29 Hz, hyperbolic-exponential (T=0.6) bass horns made of 1.5” MDF (no bends and no parallel surfaces). Each bass horn is loaded with double 15” woofers from Precision Devices (PD.158).

I use an active crossover (12 dB/octave at 266 Hz) between the bass horns and the mid/high horns and a passive crossover between the mid- and the high-section of the BMS’s.

I like the sound of this new combo very much! I think I have maintained all the qualities from the Oris/AER MD3 combo (presence and “they are here” effect) while having added even more details, dynamics, SPL and impact.

I would like to thank all the people from this board and elsewhere that gave advice along the way, especially John Sheerin, Bill Fitzmaurize, Jeff Robinson, and Bert Doppenberg. For those of you who do not altready know, Bert D. has just finished his new Oris 250 horns in which he will use a modified version of the BMS 4592 ND driver. I am sure he will take this combo to it outer limits - which in my opinion is very far indeed! Check out the development on the forum of his website:

All the best
Peter
