Mine sound pretty darn nice. More solid sounding than the standard FE206 (which I had and used for a year). The originals had some drawbacks that the new ones seemed to improve. The new aren't as thin sounding, more heft to the images, better slam in the bass...fuller sounding. I believe they are worth going all the way with on a nice cabinet. I recently swapped back to my Merlin VSM-MM and although I still prefer the Merlins, I probably could live with the Fostex's if I didn't own the Merlins.See pix below at my site.
