Not to mention the "expected" HiFi sound. In most people minds, a HiFi system should zing and sizzle in the highs and go boom boom in the bass. I guess it's the way people want their so-called "hifi" voiced.There are surely other factors, some being ethnic. For example, most french (as in France) audio material, whether on TV or vinyl or CD is outrageously "hot" and "zippy". Even french video broadcasts are "hot" (no pun intended). It's almost as if they ran the footage in Adobe AfterEffects and applied way too much sharpening.
Final music mixes are also far from perfect. Remember those Elton John records? They probably had a +10dB correction in the highs. I guess it was engineered that way to provide a phony hifi sound on AM radio...
