Re: how close can your system get to reproducing a drumkit?

I call this my Magnetar NE system. NE stands for NO EXCUSES. It's the closesest I've come to reproducing live music in my home. They are a three-way with two 15" Altec 416-z woofers per channel in vented cabinets tuned to 30 cycles. The mid horn is a 180 cycle Sierra Brooks horn with an Altec 406-8 10" driver. The upper range is covered by the TAD TD-4001 driver loaded in a Sierra Brooks 500 cycle horn. The crossovers are passive and the crossover points are 200 and 800 cycles first order, The high horn crossover features an adjustable trap eq with five different settings and also features a fully adjustable l-pad. The drivers are all alligned and the speakers throw a very nice solid image. They are also extremely fast sounding with life-like presence. I drive them with 30 watt 6C33C-B single ended triode amps.

The low bass below 60 cycles is handled by eight JBL 2235H 15" woofers in two 20 cubic foot cabinets tuned to 18 cycles. The drivers are mounted in push-pull to cancel distortion and tighten the foundation. The bass is driven by an Aragon 4004 Mk2 power amp and the drivers are wired in parallel. They never rise above 8 ohms throughout their range and reach a low of around 2 ohms at around 20 cycles.

This system will really move some air! It will do a drum kit no lo other system I've heard.
