Not just opera, but classical music in general. An eye-opener I experienced comes to mind. About 30 years ago, I had just gotten a copy of the Sheffield recording of Prokofievs'ballet Romeo and Juliet. I listened to it a lot. We then made a trip into Berkeley to see the same ballet performed live. I remember being amazed at how much the live orchestra sounded like the recording on the Sheffield disk I had. Horn systems are not perfect, but for what they do well, they do VERY well. Another recording I find very lifelike is West Side Story (the original 1957 cast). Most live recordings of orchestras and other live events are horn systems strong point. Nothing else can reproduce the dynamics or subtle shadings like a horn.
