Home High Efficiency Speaker Asylum

Need speakers that can rock with just one watt? You found da place.

RE: "Thankfully the owners aren't in a position to compare to "un-clipped" rendition."

I am not sure, i would be tempted to say no even though i deal mostly with horns.

The "speed of response" sets the high frequency cutoff so if one had a DR and horn with the same HF corner, then they should have a similar rise time etc.

On the other hand, it is rare that one speaker radaites all of the spectrum at the same moment in time, even when driven that way.
In other words, an impulsive signal like you describe, represents a wide bandwidth signal and although it arrives at the terminals as 'one thing" a typical speaker reproduces it spread out in time

I do know (subjectively) that when you make the source radiate as if it were from one point in time, that music does seem louder or dynamic at a given measured SPL.
It may be that spreading out the spectrum in time, that this lowers the subjective peak loudness just like it does in the microphone signal.
Best,
Tom
