I believe I once read (don't ask about the source, it's quite a while ago) that tests seemed to suggest that as long as the peak to peak excursion was kept at 4 mm (~1/6") or below, the FM distortion was inaudible. This seem to match well with Wayne's experience.I'm gonna check that Cranberries song out!
