Re: JBL D130...why did this speaker sell for so much?? Rare model?

Hi, djk-

How much, in your experience did later versions of the the D130 lose wrt its midband efficiency (before cone breakup) as compared to the highest efficiency earlier versions? JBL's new online T/S spec sheet lists it as being 6.7% as compared to 8.7% for the 2220 H,J - which would imply the (later version?)D130 is a db or two less efficient there. I'm a bit confused, reading the impressions that the D130 was the 'most efficient' speaker people ever heard - or was part of that also because of breakup making itself apparent?

I've been listening to the Iron Lawbreakers using 2220J's with its passive bass boost circuit for a couple months now, and the bass performance meets all (reasonable) expectations. Backed up against a wall, it reaches down to close to 30 hz & is not usually noticeably light in its bottom octave although you can tell that the overall sixth order rolloff really kicks in below 30 hz. Plus the 2220J within its excursion range gets good marks for most of the characteristics important for good SQ, plus the Iron Lawbreakers maintain that 100 - 101 db/w/m SPL in a box with a front aspect just a little larger than a JBL Eon 15 (a lot heavier, though).

Interestingly enough, all the data fields to the right of Pe for the 2220 H, J are blank now, like for Xmax - JBL holding out on us?. Also, typos on the 2262 entry.

Happy listening.
